Industry restricts product sampling and sets new standards for sales representatives and congresses (24/06/2010)
EFPIA released a statement on behalf of the association leadership regarding industry standards. The statement, agreed by industry leaders, provides EFPIA and its member associations with a clear mandate to champion and enforce the highest possible standards by reviewing a number of areas and, where necessary, issuing additional guidance.

Andrew Witty, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline and President of EFPIA, called today for 'a new dialogue’ between governments and the pharmaceutical industry in order to deliver patient access to better medicines and enhance Europe’s competitiveness as a base for R&D investment.

EFPIA confirmed that Mr. Roch Doliveux, CEO of global biopharmaceutical company UCB and EFPIA board member, has been appointed to the Governing Board of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), a public-private partnership between the EFPIA and the European Union.
- Agreement on animal welfare legislation: a step forward for patients, research and animal welfare (11/05/2010)
EFPIA acknowledges the Council’s adoption of the common position on the revision of EU Directive on the protection of laboratory animals. This paves the way for a rapid completion of the new legislation and improving and harmonising animal protection standards.
- EFPIA anti-counterfeit product verification pilot project successful (14/04/2010)
EFPIA today published the results of their product verification system pilot project. The pilot, held in Sweden, between September 2009 and January 2010, successfully demonstrated that a product verification system at the point of dispense, based on a two-dimensional data matrix, is both robust and effective.

EFPIA has become a member of the EUnetHTA Joint Action on Health Technology Assessment Stakeholder Forum, and is committed to active participation in the Forum for its duration (2010- -2012).
- EVM statement on PACE Resolution on "The handling of the H1N1 pandemic: more transparency needed" (25/06/2010)
The European Vaccine Manufacturers notes the PACE resolution, and welcomes any lessons learned on what worked and what can be improved for all aspects of pandemic response. For more than 10 years public health authorities, regulatory agencies and industry worked extensively on preparedness efforts. As a result, EVM believes that this preparedness helped ensure that the response to H1N1 was the most robust seen to date.

The European Vaccine Manufacturers (EVM) reject the allegations presented in the motion for recommendation entitled: 'Fake pandemics - a threat for health', signed by a small number of parliamentaries. EVM believes that the assertions in this motion are unfounded, and result from a misunderstanding of the pandemic planning process and the collaboration between public and private sector partners.

EFPIA Open Letter on Health Council, 30 November - 1 December
EFPIA published an open letter to the Health Council urging them to ensure rapid adoption of legislation which will benefit EU citizens and patients.
- EESC calls for the completion of a single market in the pharmaceutical sector
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has adopted an Opinion on the European Commission’s December 2008 Communication on "Safe, Innovative and Accessible Medicines: a Renewed Vision for the Pharmaceutical Sector" at its September 30 plenary session. In their Opinion, the EESC calls for the completion of a single market in the pharmaceutical sector, outlining a number of proposals to pave the way for a viable and strong European pharmaceutical sector. EFPIA welcomes the EESC Opinion and congratulates the Rapporteur for their work.
