The European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO) was established to implement the European Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD - Directive 2011/62/EU) and Delegated Regulation (EU 2016/161) in order to protect European patients against the threat of counterfeit medicines.

Concretely, EMVO is setting up a Europe-wide infrastructure of repositories centred on the “European Hub” which is currently operational in ramp-up mode, connected to national verification systems, which have to be established in the EEA member states by February 2019.

The EMVO Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Andreas WALTER as General Manager with effect from April 2016.

Andreas Walter brings experience from EFPIA where he was the Project Director for the FMD and has been the interim Director of the EMVO since February 2015.

Sonia Ruiz, EMVO President, commented “We welcome the the appointment of Andreas Walter as EMVO General Manager who will help the pharmaceutical industry and supply chain  get the system up and running effectively to ensure access to safe medicines for European patients.”

Andreas added “I am more than confident that EMVO stands for a successful, innovative governance model, a trusted partner for authorities and patients by building a European-wide verification system for medicines.”
